Watch the Deus card take shape!

If you missed the livestream of artist Rachel Petrovicz taking the new Deus Ex Machina card from a very minimalist sketch through to a close-to-fully realized playing card, check out the recording here!  (Forward to the 4:28 mark to start watching.)

It’s fascinating to hear Rachel talk through the artistic process and her considerations in making choices about the cards. For instance, she discusses making the choice to explore bright light sources as a means of making the cards stand out so that the game is more playable. She has definitely succeeded with the art for our original deck! The End is a stunning vision of salvation, while the Heal card – so important to surviving the game – leaps out in your hand. Rest manages to convey a sense of peace while still being beautifully eye-catching with its intense, central light source.

The livestream offers a glimpse into the artistic decisions that resulted in such gorgeous artwork!

Here’s a glimpse of the Deus Ex Machina card mid-creation, but you’ll want to watch more of the recording to get the full flavour!
